The Devil Wears Prada 2 Delivers Iconic Fashion and an Even Better Storyline

Written by Meionna Nichele C.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 hit theaters on May 1st, and guess what? I was in my seat ready to watch it by May 2nd. If you guys remember, I previously did an article on Anne Hathaway’s Versace campaign, so I was hoping this day would come and it finally did!

I was honestly nervous about a sequel because it’s very rare for the second movie to be better than, or even equal to, the original. But after watching it, the results are officially in… I LOVED IT. I absolutely loved this movie.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 brought back the original cast, including Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly and Anne Hathaway as none other than Andy Sachs. I want to spill all the details, but I’ll keep it cute just in case some of you haven’t seen it yet.

If you remember, the original Devil Wears Prada ended with Andy Sachs walking away from Miranda during Paris Fashion Week. Fast forward 20 years later, and somehow Miranda and Andy end up needing one another again.

It was really cool watching their reunion unfold the way it did. Miranda acted like she forgot Andy, but we all know that wasn’t true especially after giving her that New York Times recommendation in the first movie.

Now let’s talk fashion because, of course, the looks were killer.

One standout was the multicolored tassel jacket Miranda wore by Dries Van Noten. The look screamed luxury, confidence, and power in the most effortless way possible.

Then there was the beautiful patchwork maxi dress by Gabriela Hearst, worn by Andy while attending a work gathering alongside Miranda. The dress felt polished yet natural, which perfectly reflected Andy’s character evolution.

Seeing Andy’s taste in fashion naturally exude throughout the film was refreshing. Style is something that comes from within, not something that can simply be taught.

And let’s not forget the lovely assistant turned enemy, who wore a fabulous Dior look featuring a Dior button down paired with a pinstriped Wiedehoeft corset. The bold Dior branding gave the outfit an edgy feel while still maintaining that polished, commanding power energy.

Now for the moment every OG Devil Wears Prada fan appreciated… the cerulean sweater made its comeback. The iconic cerulean blue sweater Andy once loved and Miranda absolutely hated returned with a modern twist. This time, Ms. Hathaway herself took the scissors to it and transformed it into a chic sweater vest.

All in all, I would give the movie a solid 9/10, and I would absolutely watch it again. The fashion was everything, the storyline delivered, and the nostalgia mixed with fresh drama made it worth every second.

The film did a great job balancing where the characters once were with who they’ve become 20 years later. It felt familiar without feeling outdated, which is hard for sequels to pull off successfully.

So the real question is… when are you grabbing your tickets?
